He’s the king of the jungle, meet Samson the Lion! This knitting pattern includes the instructions to knit your own lion. Samson has a mane of curly hair which is made by knitting loops. The finished lion is 27cm tall (from tips of toes to top of ears when standing).

The pattern includes row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, instructions for making the lion, photos, a list of abbreviations and explanation of some techniques (including how to knit loops), a materials list and recommended yarns. The pattern is 7 pages and written in English. All pieces are knitted flat on straight 3.5mm (US 4) knitting needles, and knitted in double knitting (light worsted weight) yarns.

Samson the Lion

Excellent pattern. Easy to knit although I made the mane differently as I was making for a baby so it needed to be less fluffy. However the size and shape is otherwise perfect for small hands. My grandson loves it.

He looks like Leo de Leeuw

I am knitting this for my 38 year old son in the hope that he can use it in a book or series of books) to help Dutch children learn to read in English. He has a cloth version which he takes photos of Leo ding different things (cooking, helping to mend the shower etc) I said he could write books illustrated with these photos but he said he couldn't do this as Leo de Leeuw is a commercial toy. What is your position on this?
