Rainbow Mandala Entrelac Blanket Knit-Along Kit in Deramores Yarn
Develop your knitting skills and learn the intricate technique of entrelac knitting with this beautiful brightly coloured blanket Knit-Along in Deramores Studio DK.
Designed by Sarah Murray from The Cornish Knitting Company, this blanket will be the centre of attention no matter where it is placed!
“I wanted the colours to be bright eruption of colours, radiating out from the centre…For the blanket itself, I’ve only ever seen this type of blanket worked in crochet or Tunisian crochet, so it was a real challenge but an exciting one working out a knitted version. When I was knitting it, it didn’t lie flat on circular needles, so when I eventually cast off, there was quite a dramatic “reveal” when it was finally off the needles which im excited for all of those who are taking part to see for themselves!” Sarah Murray

The blanket is amazing, I managed to get hold of the original colourway and it's stunning to look at. Very simple when you get into it but put to good effect. I've marked it down by a star due to the pattern being less than clear in places. After a while, it starts telling you to pick up more stitches than you have to pick up, so it's left to the knitter to try and pick them up unevenly or to work out where to add increases to compensate. It's also not entirely clear where to pick up the extra stitches to form the border. Neither of which are a problem if you're a little experienced, but might throw a beginner off on an otherwise simple pattern. For people looking to do the blanket and find their own yarn for it: I'm a moderate speed knitter and this took me about 14 weeks on evenings and weekends around a full time job. I checked my gauge and was knitting to the recommended size, I used less than half a ball for the first 8 colours and didn't use any of the second ball for the last 2 colours, so it depends on how much you like to play yarn chicken with those. The picture is complete but pre-blocked, currently having fun clearing enough floor space to get it stretched out to full size! I ended up picking up the back of stitches from the start of the border rows and knitting together on the cast off row so that I wouldn't have to tack down the edge after casting off (I hate that sort of finishing off and with a lot of loose ends to weave it, I thought it'd be worth a try) and that seems to have worked well and still gives me a flat edge.
The quality of the Dearmores DK wool I have purchased for this pattern is amazing I would highly recommend it. The pattern looks amazing and I can't wait to start it.
I always wanted to make I e of these patterns and this one is easy to follow.
Have only ordered the pattern so far, will order the wool soon when I've finished other projects! Looking forward to doing this, it will be something I've never done before and I've been knitting for best part of 50 years!
I love Deramores anti pilling DK yarn and am really happy to be able to buy it in 50 gr. balls now. I have been making soft toys so I am able to buy a greater selection of colours. Time and money well spent.
