Mostyn the Moose by Kate E. Hancock - Digital Version
Mostyn the Moose has left his home in the forests of Canada and is keen to try a life of adventure. With his fabulous antlers and wide nose, he measures approximately 7 – 8” (18 – 20cm), and is just waiting to be your friend. Suitable for an intermediate crocheter, the pattern is made in a spiral of continuous rounds, and uses a variety of stitches and techniques which are clearly explained in the numerous diagrams and photos.
Mostyn can be created using any DK yarn, but why not try our own awarding winning Deramores Studio DK, a beautifully soft acrylic yarn with anti-pilling technology. Moose vary in shade from almost black to very light brown or grey, and we think Mostyn would look fabulous in Chocolate or Mist, with his hooves in Ebony and his antlers in Oatmeal.
Please be aware that Studio DK is a 100g ball, so you will have enough to knit Mostyn a friend – or put the yarn towards creating another of Kate’s fabulous designs! As an Amiguroumi, Mostyn will need to be crocheted quite tightly to avoid the stuffing from showing through. To complete your moose you will need: 1 x 50g balls of Brown DK yarn 1 x 50g ball of Black DK yarn 1 x 50g ball of Beige DK yarn 3.5mm (USE/4) crochet hook 3.25mm (US D/3) crochet hook for the crocheted eyes option Small amount of yarn for crocheted eyes option 2 x 20mm safety eyes - though please note that Kate handpainted the safety eyes in the illustration for extra appeal - they are usually either a plain black or 'googly' Stuffing Yarn needle Stitch markers Please note: Mostyn is crocheted using UK terminology.
