Jo was much happier with fabric, yarn and cardboard than plastic toys as a child, and was taught to knit by her nana. She made many of her own clothes as a teenager, but then as many did in the late 80’s, she put aside her crafting skills and went on to pursue other paths. She could be found positioning ships in the arctic in the 90s and in the boardrooms of corporations in the 00’s. However a chance desire to buy her mum a cushion knit kit put her firmly back in the crafting domain. It was a revelation to be able to explore her creative side, and Jo has been designing knitwear ever since.
Jo likes to use different techniques and shapes to create very accessible knitwear. She designs everything from toys, homewares, accessories, womenswear, menswear, to kids and babywear. You can find her designs in many knitting titles including Knitting, Let’s Knit, Peoples Friend, The Knitter, Love Knitting for Baby and Simply Knitting. She also collaborates extensively with major yarn brands as well as small independent yarn producers. See many of her designs on Instagram, or now on her own little corner of the Deramores website, at her own designer shop.
