About Charmaine Fletcher

Having gained an honours degree in Politics and Philosophy, I qualified in Public Relations Management before working at national level but I’ve always made time for knitting and crochet. Later, I retrained, gaining qualifications in Design, Fine Art, Art History and a City & Guilds in Photography, all of which complemented my passion for design.

Eventually, I entered and won a knitting design competition, followed by success in several more, when a judge offered me freelance work providing pattern support for their yarn company. After that, publication in books, magazines and bookazines followed and my freelance work took off – I am never short of ideas!

I find inspiration everywhere: the natural world, particularly the sea and the night sky, mythology from Greek, Roman and Norse culture, literature and the arts, especially dance. If i’m not knitting, i’m thinking about it and how I can turn a basic idea into something useful and, hopefully, beautiful.

It’s lovely being able to share a craft in this way. Apart from all kinds of needlework, I also enjoy creative writing and have had several short Stories accepted for publication. While another interest is writing poems, many of which have appeared in professionally published anthologies.
