Vintage Sweethearts Crochet Along

Craft blogger Sandra Paul of Cherry Heart teams up with Crochet Now magazine to bring you the Vintage Sweethearts CAL.

An all-around crafter Sandra crochets, knits and sews and has an impressive collection of beautiful designs over on her blog. Together with Crochet Now Sandra ‘Cherry Heart’ brings us Vintage Sweethearts – a block blanket made up of various motifs in different sizes, creating a patchwork style design.

Inspired by one of Sandra’s favourite pastimes visiting her Nanna’s house the Vintage Sweetheart’s CAL is made up of colourful granny squares named after the very ladies that brought inspiration to many of us crafters ourselves. From Betty to Beatrice to Daisy to Dot the square names only add character to the CAL, along with a sense of history to the blanket, like that of a family heirloom passed down for generations. The blanket is created with a range of different-sized square motifs and has a variety of easy and intermediate patterns, making it the perfect challenge for crafters new to crochet and the ideal project for intermediate hookers.

So how do we join in with the CAL we hear you cry? Simply pick up the latest issue of Crochet Now or subscribe to the magazine to ensure you don’t miss a thing here. Pick your favourite colour pack from the choice below, order yours today and get it in time for the launch of the CAL in issue 15 of Crochet Now.

Two colour packs are available for the Vintage Sweethearts CAL, both use Scheepjes yarn and similar hues, simply choose between premium acrylic or Merino blend yarns. The first of the colour packs uses Scheepjes Merino Soft, an incredibly sumptuous yarn made from a blend of superwash Merino wool.  Sandra designed and crocheted the Vintage Sweethearts blanket in the beautiful palette of Scheepjes Merino Soft, the gorgeously smooth and soft yarn makes the perfect base for a blanket. The second colour pack uses Colour Crafter a premium acrylic yarn which is surprisingly soft and washes and wears well. The colour crafter pack is excellent value and the yarn range is particularly well-suited to blankets with its variety of beautiful hues inspired by the picturesque landscape of the Netherlands.
