About the Designer

I was taught to knit at an early age by my Grandmother and mother, it was a very craft full home, where I found I could turn my hand to most crafts. I really became obsessed with knitting after suffering from anxiety and depression in my twenties (an ongoing battle!).

I started designing small knitted items for cards, this becomes a huge success leading to kits being made out of the cards. I have now moved on from cards to quirky homewares, quick knits and toys. I now design for a number of knitting magazines and my website www.knitola.com.

Nicola Valiji also has a Designer Shop at Deramores.

Further information about the Knit-Along:

Nicola Valiji stemmed her idea for this Knit-Along to be a project that could be used year after year. She had a vision hiding the little animals around the house or garden, then using the lamb basket to collect and place the animals in with their little head poking out of the top of the basket.  The lamb basket can be used after Easter as a project bag and will fit five 100g balls of yarn and has handy carry handles.

‘’I had a wonderful time designing the little animals and adding charters to each design, even though they were small they took a quite a long time to design due to all the little details. My particular favourite is the little mouse, with the cute curly tail! I wanted the handles to look like a rainbows and I am really happy with how they turned out. I thought the basket and body of the lamb would look good in a bobble stitch. So had to get out my knitting stitch dictionary and have an experiment with bobbles.

I can't wait to see everyone's completed makes and maybe photos of your little ones using it for a treasure hunt on Easter Sunday. It was truly an honour to be asked to design my first ever Knit-Along using my all-time favourite Deramores Studio DK yarn to design with. I have joined the Deramores project group on Facebook so am really excited to see what everyone has to say about it.’’
