Stitch of the Week: Beginners Lace

Our Stitch of the Week installment is back and we're kicking things off with a design perfect for the spring summer season! When it comes to knitting lace, designs can be pretty tricky, but fear not we have a pattern ideal for beginners that will prepare you for the intricate garments you dream of whipping up. 


Beginner’s Lace

This stitch is worked over a multiple of 6 stitches plus 1. 12 rows form the pattern.

1st and every wrong side row: (WS) P.

2nd row: K1, *yfwd, sl 1, K1, psso, K1, K2 tog, yfwd, K1, rep from * to end.

4th row: As 2nd row.

6th row: As 2nd row.

8th row: K2, *yfwd, sl 1, K2 tog, psso, yfwd, K3, rep from * to last 5 sts, yfwd, sl 1, K2 tog, psso, yfwd, K2.

10th row: K1, *K2 tog, yfwd, K1, yfwd, sl 1, K1, psso, K1, rep from * to end.

12th row: K2 tog, *yfwd, K3, yfwd, sl 1, K2 tog, psso, rep from * to last 5 sts, yfwd, K3, yfwd, sl 1, K1, psso.


K: Knit

YFWD: Yarn Forward

SI: Slip Stitch

K2TOG: Knit two stitches together

STS: Stitches

PSSO: Pass slip stitch over*

*Insert point of right-hand needle knitwise into next stitch on left-hand needle and slip it on to right-hand needle. Knit next stitch. Insert point of left-hand needle into front of slipped stitch and lift it over the knitted stitch and off the needle. Work in same way for sl 1, k2 tog, psso, or sl 1, k3 tog, psso.
