Our Pick of the Best Knitters and Crocheters on Ravelry

We love Ravelry. It’s an invaluable platform for knitting and crochet enthusiasts; it provides amazing support to new and experienced craft lovers, it lets users buy and sell their own knitting patterns, and it gives us tonnes of fresh inspiration on a daily basis!

So to help you navigate the site and get to know some of its most familiar faces, we’ve put together our pick of the best users to follow on Ravelry. Some are knitters, some are designers, some are both – but one thing’s for sure, these talented men and women are truly flying the flag for a new generation of craftspeople!

Irishgirlieknits

IrishgirlieknitsIrishgirlieknits specialises in classic designs with a modern twist. They may look simple at first glance, but study her creations more closely and you’ll notice that a great deal of care has gone into these inspiring designs.

This popular designer offers detailed patterns for all kinds of accessories, including shawls, wraps, socks, cowls, beanies, gloves and mitts. You’ll also find great examples of cute cardigans within Irishgirlieknits’ portfolio (and we spotted an awesome knitted Christmas bauble within the collection, too!).

Designs aside, we love the warmth and versatility of the shades that Irishgirlieknits uses – they really make her knits pop. More of her work can be found on her blog.

Stevenbe

StevenbeAs Stevenbe quite rightly says – “there are no mistakes, only variations”. And we think that it’s this seemingly relaxed attitude that’s led him to produce some of Ravelry’s most creative and fashion-forward designs.

As well as focusing on producing flattering cuts and drapes, Stevenbe is the master of colour. He prefers to use rich, intriguing shades to create knits that will add pizazz to any outfit. We’re in love with Shawlvest, which can be tied in any which way to create a versatile wrap with luxury appeal; we also can’t get enough of this colourful Metamorphosis Scarf, a glamorous piece within Be Sweet’s Glitter Knitter Scarves collection that uses bulky yarn to give it such a fascinating texture.

CrochetDreamz

CrochetDreamzIt’s not all about the knits! CrochetDreamz, run by NaazM, brings fun, stylish crochet designs to users who prefer hooks to needles. What we find particularly fascinating about this profile is that there are plenty of summer-friendly pieces in the collection alongside the more traditional gloves, hats and cowls that we associate with our winter wardrobes.

CrochetDreamz also offers an amazing selection of patterns for kids’ items, so if you’re keen to create something for that special little someone, be sure to add this Ravelry pioneer to your favourites list pronto.

Marinke Slump

Marinke SlumpMarinke made the first ever Scheepjes CAL, and that feat alone caught our attention – but gloss over her portfolio and it’s easy to see why her bright and breezy selection of crocheted accessories, jewellery, bags and home decorations is one of the most revered on Ravelry.

Sadly, Marinke is no longer with us – but her stunning designs leave an incredible legacy behind.

Cabinfour

CabinfourThere’s just something irresistible about the knitwear collection from Cabinfour. These creations are classy to the core; this designer makes excellent use of muted colours and almost architectural lines to produce wearable shawls, scarves, socks and gloves.

We love the poetic names that are given to these pieces, too – Spring Rain, a pretty little cowl, evokes images of fresh, newly-watered pastures, while the delicately cabled Sunday Morning socks really are perfect for those lazy weekend days at home.

Winterludes

WinterludesA doll maker by trade, Winterludes has certainly produced a formidable selection of knitted clothing in the last few years.

This designer is especially known for their beginner-friendly patterns. Suzette, a set of three designs for a doll’s bonnet, tunic and booties, is perfect for those who are just getting to grips with their craft.

Elsewhere, jumpers and mittens add a Nordic element to Winterludes’ collection; we are in love with the New Wintermood (pictured), and so are thousands of other Ravelry users, by the looks of it!.

Pinneguri

PinneguriThis former nurse adds a touch of Norwegian heritage to a selection of patterns that is mainly comprised of children’s clothing and accessories. From shawls to blankets, mittens to bigger, bulkier jumpers, Pinneguri’s portfolio brings you a wide range of fashionable yet practical knitwear that is guaranteed to keep your little ones snuggly when the cold weather sets in.

Most of the designs here are granted Nordic names, something which we think adds even more magic to the collection. The gorgeous Barnejakka Land og strand pattern can be adapted for boys and girls (pictured), and another favourite amongst Ravelry users is the Snowflake Baby Blanket (or Vognteppet Snøfnugg).

Renee Callahan

Renee CallahanBorn in Seattle but now happily settled in East London, Renee states on her Ravelry profile that her mission is to ‘strive to create hand knit patterns that are enjoyable to knit and remain wearable for years to come’.

Well, we think she’s succeeded.

Her collection of womenswear fuses style trends from both sides of the Atlantic to create the kinds of pieces that will catch your eye in a crowd.

We’re head over heels for Naloa, a beautiful top-down triangular shawl that’s best suited to fingering-weight yarn (pictured).

Keep an eye out for Deramores, too…

We love being a part of the action, which is why we’ve added our own large portfolio of designs to Ravelry. You can check out our designer page here. If you’ve recently purchased some of our own-brand Deramores wool and are looking for new ways to incorporate it into your collection, remember you can always search according to the type, weight and name of the yarn you want to work with. Pop our name into the search bar and you’ll be presented with a wide range of projects that have been submitted by other Ravelry users who are already enjoying our products!

Who have we missed?

Of course, there are endless more amazing knitters and crochet addicts who are adding hundreds of new designs to Ravelry every single day. We’ve only presented you with a tiny selection of the individuals who are setting the community alight – but what do you think?
